                             ART APPRECIATION

Message From the President

Since returning from Italy, I feel like an artist on the cutting edge of the new world.  Being surrounded by centuries of art and sculpture one begins to feel how wonderful it is to be a part of this young country.  The Italians are very proud of their heritage and it is easy to understand their devotion to protecting and preserving such astounding beauty and history.  Our trip was wonderful but one can never spend enough time seeped in history and overwhelmed with the beauty that is there to enjoy.  So another trip must be in store!

Now back to our new world!  I was so very pleased to see the wildlife show such a success and look forward to next season.  Mary Durnin and Janice Hamilton now hanging have a beautiful exhibit.  Please don’t miss it.

Our membership is up to 91 members and hopefully climbing.  Our old computer sold at silent auction for $250.00, which will go to defer the cost of the new one.

Angie Vangalis has had really good turnouts for her workshops.  Thanks to Carolyn Parrish for doing the workshops in Barbara Fields place, good job!

Our Board Members are busy working on different projects; Texas & Neighbors; Christmas Painting decorations; Website updates; Newsletters; Directory; Workshop Coordination and many other fun art happenings.

Texas & Neighbors Prospectus will go out this month we expect a great turnout.  Volunteers will be needed for this project as well as the Greeting Card workshop in December, so get your Santa Helpers hats on and get out there!

I will be traveling with family after November 28th but hope to see all of you at the November 23rd membership meeting.  Until then, keep painting!

 -  Nina Hardison, President

Featured Artist - Jan Bateman

Jan Bateman, like most dedicated artist, spent her childhood drawing. Her successful 25 year career as a commercial artist and a fashion illustrator lends confidence to her design and technique.  Bateman’s formal training was achieved at Oklahoma State University, Texas Woman’s University, and Weatherford College. However, she credits the perfecting of her skills to private lessons by some of the nations most well known artist including Ron Riddick, Neil Boyle, Jim Wilcox, Louis Escobedo, Zhang, Wen Zin, and renowned portrait painters Bettina Steinke and Daniel Green.

Jan was honored by the “Pastel Society of America” with a scholarship to the “Art Students Leaque of New York”, and has received many other awards including second place in the National Art Magazine “North Light” Competition.  Jan is a member of the Pastel Society of America, The Oil Painters of America, The Portrait Society of America, American Woman Artist and the American Academy of Woman Artist.  Jan has completed portrait commissions of children and adults.

Jan believes that art should create emotion and a sense of interest in the subject, whether it is a still life or a portrait.  Jan’s greatest job is to create a painting, where the owner will see the unique perspectives that she saw.  Like all great things in life, art is for sharing with others.  Her work is her greatest joy and her greatest need.  Without it, she could not share so many of the wonders in life that she sees everyday.

Eiseman Jewels will underwrite the Friendraiser’s Patron Party, to be held in early February, and Neiman Marcus has agreed to a role in the event.  Email Sheryl Fields Bogen at sherylbogen@sbcglobal.net or call her at 214-906-3592 for more information.
