Juror Paul Jackson

About the Juror

Paul C. Jackson won his first award from the American Watercolor Society at age 21. When he was 30 he became the youngest signature member of AWS. Paul received his MFA from the University of Missouri where he serves as the University's Resident Master Artist. "My passion for light is the inspiration that drives me to paint," he says. "The medium that I render my subjects in is transparent watercolor."

Paul has won Best of Show in the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia exhibition and the Kansas Watercolor Society. He has been featured on the cover of Artist's Magazine several times. He has also appeared several times on the cover of Watercolor magazine, in Master Painters of the World Showcase, in International Artist Magazine and in American Artist. His work is in collections at the Missouri Governor's Mansion, the Supreme Court, Missouri State Capitol, and he has been featured at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the White House. He is the author and illustrator of Painting Spectacular Light Effects in Watercolor.

Juror's Statement

While almost all of the slides entered in this competition met a high standard of professionalism, several pieces stood out as remarkably imaginative and should be considered masterpieces. Those few were the easier selections. As for the other 75+ works selected, the challenge was far more difficult. The resulting exhibition is broad in its scope and entertaining in its variety. I was personally amazed by the showcase of talent presented. And professionally impressed to see how far my peers are pushing their art.

It was a delight to meet and work with the staff and members of the Irving Art Association, and an honor to be entrusted with such a challenging task. I think many will agree that this exhibition truly represents some of the best of American art today.
